Dream #1249

This young boys' journey began before he was born. An early ultrasound revealed spina bifida, and his parents spent the rest of the pregnancy filled with worry and uncertainty. At birth, their fears were confirmed—he had Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida, the most severe form of the condition. His spinal cord was exposed, requiring immediate surgeries and two long months in the hospital. During that time, his family was torn apart—his older sister, not yet two, lived with grandparents while his parents stayed by his side through countless procedures and infections. Due to his age, doctors still don’t know how much function he will have in his lower body as he grows. He has no feeling from above his knees, will never walk independently, and will always need assistance for basic functions.
But now 4, he is unstoppable. He’s learning to use a crocodile walker, takes gymnastics to build strength, and plays sledge hockey. This past summer, he discovered his true passion—skateboarding. Now, he spends every possible moment on his board, building ramps with his sister and chasing the thrill of movement and freedom.
Alberta Dreams is excited to help fuel his passion with a awesome front yard skate park of his very own.
